![]() Hi Folks, It is with immense pleasure that we announce the return of the E30 Picnic! The 2021 E30 Picnic sees a big serving of the same event everyone loves, with a small portion of new and exciting changes for its triumphant return. This year's event is proudly hosted by the E30 Chapter of the BMW Car Club of America, and we're welcoming a new presenting sponsor for 2021 - Liqui Moly! The tried and true traditions shaped by the last eighteen years of E30 Picnics remain unchanged. This year's festivities will once again be held on the grounds of the LeMay Collections at Marymount in Tacoma, WA on its regular date, the last Sunday in June - 6/27/2021. We have a growing list of sponsors who will be joining us at the event and providing lots of neat swag and items for the raffles, as well as some returning vendors who will have cool things available for purchase on site. More details to come as we get a little closer. Registration for the 2021 E30 Picnic will be opening soon - save the date and keep an eye out for further information. On behalf of the Chapter Board of Directors and 2021 event staff, we're all thrilled to be bringing back the premier E30 event in the world. We hope you'll join us there! Due to the phased opening announced by the governor, the E30 Picnic has been postponed. We may hold the E30 Picnic in August. We are watching how the "phased" opening of the state goes, and if it seems possible and safe, we'll look for a date in August or September to hold the E30 Picnic. We'll try to give 30 days notice of the new date, once known.
Until then, have fun with your E30! Head over to https://www.hagerty.com/articles-videos/articles/2019/07/05/e30-picnic-where-boxy-bmw-fans-coalesce to read the article.

The fourteenth Annual E30 Picnic on June 28th was the biggest and best one yet. About 225 E30s were present under mostly sunny skies at the LeMay Family Collection. We’ve almost exceeded the site’s space but for this year it was a nice cozy environment for all this E30 goodness. E30s traveled from seven states and two Canadian provinces.
This show has become the biggest E30 show in the world and has a worldwide reputation. The furthest traveled award went to Ryan Carag, who traveled to Tacoma from Maryland by way of New Orleans, Texas and Arizona; a total of 4,469 miles one way! Ryan received a Car Care Kit from Griot’s Garage. Alex Sukhovetskiy came from Tennessee, which in any other year would have made him the furthest traveled. Alex broke some other record by traveling with three of his closest friends in the car. At least, they still seemed like friends after this cross-country dorm-on-wheels adventure. Presumably they stopped to shower every few days. Picnic organizers passed the hat for gas money for these two far flung travelers and were able to send them homeward bound with about $80 each, enough for two tanks of gas. The lush green lawn at the LeMay Family Museum in Spanaway, Washington, was staked and ready for the forecasted E30 Tsunami. On cue Sunday morning the wave of over 180 BMW E30s rolled onto the display field under cloudy morning, then wonderfully sunny afternoon, skies. E30s from six states and two Canadian provinces made the annual sojourn to congregate with other like-minded pilgrims. This was the scene for the thirteenth annual E30 picnic organized by Lance Richert. The first E30 Picnic had around 50 cars. Today it is the world’s largest E30 event. There was even a crew filming the E30 Picnic for an upcoming documentary on the cult of the BMW E30.
Saturday, the day before the Picnic, there were E30-specific tech sessions run by R3VLimited and hosted by Griot’s Garage. From there, many made their way to the pre-Picnic party Saturday night at James Crivellone’s house in Tacoma. This group braved the possibility of hangovers for the next day’s big event. The 12th Annual E30 Picnic in June delivered again with a whole weekend’s worth of activities for E30 enthusiasts. The weekend starts early for those traveling from out of town as caravans start hitting the road on Thursday from points in Southern California. All caravans from north and south meet on Saturday afternoon at Griots Garage for the Saturday E30 Tech Session. This also serves as a gathering point to caravan to James Crivellone’s house for the Saturday Evening R3VLimited bash. Parking on the tight 2-lane street went on for a quarter mile.
We were treated to fantastic weather for the Sunday Picnic, almost too hot! The typical uber-eclectic mix of E30s showed up, about 195 total E30s this year making the E30 Picnic still the largest E30 car show in the world! Those in attendance saw plenty of E30s at the E30 Picnic… 185 to be exact! The Picnic continues to be the largest E30-specific gathering in the world. Call Ripley’s! The weekend started on Saturday with a multi-session tech event at Griot’s Garage. Saturday evening many owners descended on James Crivellone’s house for an evening of beer, BBQ2U and simulator racing.
Sunday was the big day and though the forecast had been for rain, the E30 Gods smiled on the event bringing the sun out as droves of E30s descended to the LeMay Marymount Museum’s East Lawn. The site was gorgeous with lush green lawn and towering trees lining the perimeter. The E30 owners in attendance were a diverse group. Though many owners were in their 20s and 30s, enthusiastic owners were in attendance up to 71 years old. Caravans of E30s traveled from Oregon, California, British Columbia and Alberta. |
